Pipe-weed!

Now I know where to start!

I have recently heard (well... actually, overheard, but nevermind...) that a load of pipe-weed will be exported to the amazing kingdom of Darokin. Yes, Darokin! Beautiful, mighty, rich Darokin! Well, at least that is what I've heard about it.

So with all that excitement, I was about to start my adventuring career in a bold - yet sloppy, maybe even stupid - way.

That's when I got a letter with an emerald earring inside. Right? The whole thing made of emerald? And in the shape of a flame? How cool is that? Well... it might be merely blue-green tourmaline, though.

I wish I knew more about gems... adding that to the things I need to improve on. I have a feeling from now on I'll be seeing lots of gems, me being an adventurer and all... so it'll be a handy skill. :-)

The letter was from Cillidox, a halfling (like myself!) adventurer
of great renown and our country hero. Have I told you already that we live in the Five Shires?

Well, the letter did not describe what the earring was. I guess finding out more about it is part of my training, something for me to learn and experiment with. Or a yet another joke of Cillidox's - probably both.

At least, the document brought some really useful suggestions, and... well, I'm getting ahead of myself: first things, first... aesthetics are a must: let me decide in each ear to use the earring. I flip a copper coin and it's... the left ear!

Now let me tell you about my uncle.

And so my career begins (the first IC posting!)

< OOC Begins >

Yes, this is the first IC (in-character) posting!

And maybe the last one that will bring such info (IC posting). Or then again maybe not.

Of course, this is all OOC. Damn!

< OOC Ends >

----------

< IC Begins >

This is the beginning. The beginning is always a hard part. Maybe the hardest. Mr. Bilbo Baggins of the Shire used to say:

"It's a dangerous business, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no telling where you might be swept off to."

That's exactly how I feel: I intend to be more a storyteller than an adventurer. The latter is more a requirement to be able to accomplish the first if you follow me.

Anyway, I'm now about to start my adventuring career and have just started my storytelling career. Yes, with these few lines.

I could even say something like

"It's a dangerous business, pressing your quill against your journal. You step onto the telling, and if you don't keep your writing hand, there's no telling where you might be swept off to."

Well, guess I should get moving now.

Where to?

Out of the Five Shires it is... yes, that's where adventures worthy of being told truly lie... but where?

The Lord of the Rings and Dungeons and Dragons - OOC (out-of-character) post

In the last post, I spoke of "The Lord of the Rings".

Well, the "Dungeons and Dragons" RPG (role-playing game) owes its very existence to that novel.

In Mystara (the Campaign Setting / World in which I, Vinimagus, play), "The Shire" is actually a set of linked shires called "The Five Shires".

In the book (TLOTR), the term "halfling" has been used to refer to hobbits.

In Mystara, halflings do not perfectly match Tolkien's hobbits ("Hobbits from the Shire"), but the first are deeply inspired in the latter.

Halflings and hobbits are cheerful, curious and have stout hearts. Both have hairy foot, are much shorter than humans (and a bit shorter than dwarves - and not dwarfs, just like Tolkien would prefer, hehehe), they like pipe-weed, good food and drink etc etc etc.

Well, by now, you are starting to know Peregriadoc, our brave, joyful, and skillful hero.

Please do not sue me

I, Vinimagus, did create the character Peregriadoc. However, his name and some general characteristics are, of course, a homage to Peregrin Took and Meriadoc Brandybuck, characters of J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings" book.

Peregriadoc is a character that belongs to the world of Mystara, whose rights belong to "Wizards of the Coast", to whom I am VERY glad, as they saved the hobby I LOVE THE MOST, the RPG (role-playing game) "Dungeons and Dragons", A.K.A. "D&D".

Mystara is one of the "worlds" in which you can play D&D. That's where the character Peregriadoc "lives".

If you have any questions, suggestions etc, please contact me and let me know.

All the best to all of you,

Vinimagus

The first post - by Vinimagus (i.e. OOC posting)

This is one of the few OOC* posts you'll ever see here.
* Out-of-character.

That means that I'll be most of the time writing IC (in-character) i.e. as Peregriadoc, halfling bard adventurer, hero, wanderer, storyteller - and not as Vinimagus (me).
